MU Report About
MU Report is a resourceful, student produced newscast aimed at providing viewers with the most accurate stories. Working within the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications in the College of Arts and Media we partner with the community in gaining real world experience in reporting. Our goal is to bring you the most factual and current news stories in a timely manner.
MU Report is a fully student-produced newscast that brings the community accurate news and information regarding Marshall University and the surrounding Huntington, W. Va. area. All broadcasts are produced out of university broadcast facilities and West Virginia Public Television. Students enrolled in JMC 451 Television Reporting and JMC 452 Advanced TV Reporting participate in the shooting, editing, writing and production of television packages, which air on Sunday's and Monday's twice a month. MU Report is advised by Dr. Chris Swindell, a professor within the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications in the College of Arts and Media.
"MU Report provided me with real-life training to work in television. We were thrown into getting out into the community and interacting with people. Those basic elements, paired with guest speakers, a professor with a long history in the business, and technical training were skills students cannot experience by simply sitting in a classroom at a desk. I apply what I learned in MU Report on a daily basis in my career as a television journalist." Jessie Schafer, Channel 13 WOWK
